CKC Civil Construction Equipment was founded by Mike Stratford-Smith, a former civil contractor and owner of a plant hire business.

The Contractor's Kerb Cleaner was conceived on the job due to delays in the final trim progress owing to an acute shortage of labour to clean the kerbs and the introduction of the M3 type of kerb.  Because of the continuously curved section this kerb is nearly impossible to clean with the grader and difficult with a shovel.

Tired of road crews damaging existing bitumen by dragging stones from new sections of road when using tow behind drag brooms the Self Elevating Drag Broom was designed.  The Self Elevating Drag Broom is controlled by a remote switch and small winch allowing the brooms to be raised onto 2 wheels and manoeuvred like a regular trailer.

The next site problem was to address the common misuse of the ubiquitous cut off saw as used in the pipe laying industry to cut pipes. Patent and product searches revealed this is a worldwide problem and so the Pipe Chamfering Tool was developed.  This led to the current Pipe Cut and Bevel Tool being developed which cuts and bevels both pieces of pipe at one go.  In smoothing out the problems nearly 40 prototypes were built largely in search of simplicity and robustness.  There are now 4 versions available - PVC, DI - Ductile Iron, hydraulic In Trench and Large models.  The Pipe Cut and Bevel tool is a major safety and productivity improvement for many companies Australia wide.

Our latest development is the new and simplified Hydraulic Pro Kerb kerb forming machine.  This features several new features and exceptionally easy access for maintenance plus simplicity of operation.  Usual complications associated with kerbing machines have been eliminated.  The Pro Kerb machine operates faster, better, requires less maintenance and is easier to maintain than machines which are currently on the market.

A cornerstone of our designs is that all parts as far as possible must be readily available to the customer. As far as possible common off the shelf items are used.  No one enjoys paying a premium for specialty parts for machines when a common part will do the same job.

Our core activity is to fill genuine niche needs and address problem areas. We do the development and research and then use CNC equipped manufacturers for production. We have in place strict quality control and management system allowing us to meet and exceed any standards required by some larger construction companies and government agencies and councils.

Our aim is provide solutions to real problems and win satisfied customers.

Working with some of the largest civil construction companies and councils, Mike has extended the CKC Civil Construction Equipment range to include the Contractors Kerb Cleaner, Drag Broom, Pipe Cut and Bevel Tools and the Hydraulic Kerb Machine. After discussions with our customers we have also added to our product range varies items that relate to the industries that we sell out core products to and items in the site safety areas.
