| THE CONTRACTORS KERB CLEANER |
|
The Contractor’s Kerb Cleaner had its genesis as the result of an acute shortage of labour combined with the introduction of the M3 type of kerb. Because of the continuously curved section this kerb is nearly impossible to clean with the grader and difficult with a shovel. Added to this is the cost of capital equipment standing idle while excess gravel is removed from the channel. This probably exceeds the cost of the labour. The Contractor’s Kerb Cleaner is a purpose built and easy to use machine for road builders, primarily to sweep kerbs and remove the gravel which builds up when the road base is applied.
*** Don't Let Your Heavy Equipment Sit Idle And Cost You Money! *** It has been found that during final trim work one operator could clean the kerb behind the grader and be out of the way by the time the grader turned around. Current Uses:During topcourse operations between kerbs it is used to put gravel back in the road evenly giving the grader operator a clear view of the kerb edge and so minimising kerb damage resulting in a better quality job and less repairs. When topsoiling and turfing footpaths, rollover kerb can be cleaned back over the top keeping kerbs and stormwater systems clear of silt. Likewise during the maintenance period kerbs can be kept clean with a minimum of labour and time. Before priming. Areas close to island kerbs and concrete barriers can be swept ahead of the tractor where the tractor broom cannot reach. After sweeping, the swept material can be quickly discharged over the back of the kerb. A published report by the first asphalting team to have a machine reported that in the past a particular subdivision would have taken four men three hours to accomplish this operation. With the Contractors Kerb Cleaner now one man can complete the same task in half an hour.
Macedon Shire council bought one specifically to maintain dressed stone open drains. One machine paid for itself before ever coming near a kerb – it was used on a Main Roads contract to clear the “hard edge” of daggy bits during a multi lane asphalt overlay contract. Easy To Use:The philosophy behind the machine has been to build it as I would like it – simple and site friendly. Hence a single bolt accessible by an adjustable spanner holds the brushes on. Only one spanner is needed to adjust belt tension.
The Contractor’s Kerb Cleaner is supplied with spare brushes, filter and a bottle of the correct engine oil. Handles are adjustable to suit different operators to avoid back problems etc - a factor cited by a major company. In the interests of long engine life the Contractor's Kerb Cleaner is fitted with a Honda engine. Benefits: Keeping the capital machinery productive and less idle time for your Grader, Roller and Water truck. Overall machine hours should be substantially reduced. Clean and visible edges during final trim operations result in less damage to the kerb resulting in better job presentation and less repair work to kerbs. Better utilization of labour as using the Kerb Cleaner is so easy the roller operator can do it as fast as the grader puts any gravel in the kerb leaving the usual labour component free do to other work. The overall speed of the job is improved from the time final trim operations start to the final de-silting of the kerbs at the on-maintenance inspection, as on roll over kerbs the machine will sweep soil and silt up and over the back of the kerb. Complete the job faster. Depending on the size of the job this could result in completion being brought forward by a day or two which could result in missing out on the damage caused by a rain event.

Profiling operations. Used to sweep the corners clean so that the bobcat broom can accomplish the pick up. Likewise narrow road repairs can swept in the same manner.
All bearings are of the sealed variety, all bolts have Nyloc nuts and bearing sizes are those commonly available. Materials are aluminium and stainless steel with the exception of the bearing housings. There is a protection rail over the engine and a central lifting eye.
