Here safety and speed are the motivating factors.  Cut off saws and angle grinders along with their sparks, generators and attendant dangers are no longer needed.  These items account for many industrial accidents.  The other consideration is the matter of speed.  If our smaller 4.2kw handheld tool can cut and bevel both parts of a 300mm dia pipe at a rate of 300mm/minute the time saving on when you get into the larger sizes is very significant.

The request for the development for this came from a customer working on a 750 Ductile Iron line.  They have been experiencing a 1 1/2 hr hold up each time a cut had to be made.

As we wanted to use a motor with a standard foot print we went to a gear motor type which is readily available and well understood.  The common foot print with other motors of varying capacity gives flexibility in terms of other applications/blades requiring different speeds and torque ratings.

As it is fairly heavy we had to arrange a dampened lowering mechanism to sink the blade.  This also protects the blade prior to cutting. Once the blade is sunk only the weight of the tool is needed to keep the cutters from climbing out of the work. 

This machine is intended to run a diamond blade and bevels and therefore requires water.  It also uses a push switch to operate and so electrics were required on two counts - the control servo and the water pump.  The power-pack for this is a 13hp unit, electric start with a power outlet for the water pump and a second safety switch in series with the push button switch on the tool.   Please click here to view our range of hydraulic power packs.

This unit is self guiding but considering that on a 1m pipe your cut is roughly 3m long a guideline leading to the start point would not go amiss.

For steel pipes abrasives can be changed. Bevels can be machined to the required welding  preparation specification before coating.  Once again Italian- made hydraulic components have been used.
